Introduction
Preschool education is when students complete 70% of their mental and personal development. Therefore, an education program based on thinking skills is applied at Büyük Kolej.
The program aims to establish a balance between the social and emotional development of children and their academic foundations. Key skills in the program include curiosity, discovery, inquiry, cause-effect relationship, inference, public self-expression and self-confidence.
Our students understand what they hear in Turkish language activities, answer the questions posed, use sentences and words in different structures, improve their vocabulary, learn reading habits by spending time with books appropriate for their age group even if they cannot read and write, recognize native and foreign writers and illustrators, spend time in the library and create a solid basis for learning foreign languages.
During Games, they learn how to set up a game, participate in a previously-established game, follow the rules, share and wait for their turn. They recognize their own bodies and develop their muscles. During Cognitive Activities, they learn and internalize the basic information that they will need throughout many years of education. They develop analytical thinking skills through applications such as producing charts, problem solving, attention studies, tangram and sudoku.
During Science and Nature Activities, they experiment in the laboratory every week and learn to use tools. They make estimations and observations and compare the end result against their estimation. At the end of each theme, they learn how to use kitchen utensils when they perform a kitchen activity.
They develop and improve their aesthetic perception during Art Activities. They recognize many artists and works around the world and interpret them according to their own understanding. They increase attention span through mandala and three-dimensional coloring activities.
MINI SPORTS GAMES
Organized every year as a tradition, the Mini Sports Games are attended by Büyük Kolej preschool students as well as students from nearby preschools. The activity aims to acquaint students with sports and gain a habit of doing sports at an early age. Students play various sports games in accordance with their age groups and all students participating in the activity are awarded with medals in the end.
COFFEE MORNING
During the Coffee Morning event, Preschool students share with their parents what they have learned in English classes. They introduce themselves and present to their parents the songs, stories and games they have learned.
GELENEKSEL 100. GÜN PARTİSİ
Her sınıfımızda bir adet yüzlük tablosu bulunur ve öğrencilerimiz her okula geldikleri gün bu tabloyu işaretleyerek ritmik sayma becerilerini ve sayı farkındalıklarını günlük yaşamla ilişkilendirirler. 100. Güne gelindiğinde ise okulumuzun ve arkadaşlığımızın yüzüncü günü öğrencilerimiz tarafından düzenlenen ve dekore edilen partiyle büyük bir coşkuyla kutlanır.
EVİ OKULA GETİRİYORUZ!
Her yıl seçilen bir günde yataktan kalktığımız gibi okula geliyoruz, en sevdiğimiz oyuncağımızı da yanımızda getiriyoruz, sıralarımızı kenara çekip tüm günü minderlerin üzerinde geçiriyoruz.
GELENEKSEL KOSTÜM PARTİSİ
Kendi milli bayramlarımıza ek olarak farklı kültürlere ait bayramlara da müfredatımızda yer verilir. Her yıl 31 Ekim’de düzenlenen kostüm partisinde öğrencilerimiz kendi tasarladıkları kostümlerle okula gelerek kırmızı halı defilesine katılır.
PRESCHOOL MEASUREMENT AND EVALUATION
In the preschool period, the cognitive, affective, social and psycho-motor characteristics of students are considered and addressed as a whole. Observations during activities, activity worksheets, projects, activity pages and product files containing projects as well as school readiness tests are used to measure student development.
Student products produced at the end of the 6-week studies are shared with parents in the form of an evaluation report on Google classroom on Büyük Kolej Portal.
Measurement and Evaluation Events
Marmara School Maturity Test: It is applied to determine whether students are ready for school, school rules and learning. It is used to evaluate the physiological, environmental and mental factors that should be present in preparing for school. At the end of the test, robust data on the extent and level of school maturity and school readiness of the student are obtained.
Preschool Project Presentation: Topics of interest and curiosity for students are studied through group work under teacher guidance. Students present what they have learned and the visuals they have created to their parents.
Preschool Product File Sharing: These are meetings during which preschool students share with their parents the work that they have done.
